Stress and Our Call to Respond

Ayurveda and Yoga Nidra are Nature-based stress reduction techniques that relieve the harmful effects of the stress cycle that lead to common aches and pains, and disease and suffering.

A stressor is anything that throws our body out of balance, not living according to our true nature, in accordance with our constitution, age, and condition. Things that cause stress are misuse and abuse of energy, injury, illness, extreme heat or cold, emotions stemming from perceptions, beliefs and conditioning, wrong lifestyle including insufficient sleep, exercise and food. These stressors are blocking the free flow of our breath, or our bioenergetic life force from flowing into every cell, tissue and organ, causing stagnation of prana or chi which have negative effects on the body and mind. The blocked prana cuts us off from ourselves and the world around us and from the Yogic perspective, stress is the body’s reaction to living as if we are separate. Physical and mental disharmony develop from fragmentation, and disconnection from the unity consciousness we innately are, and Yoga and Ayurveda offer us the insights to make better choices leading us to wholeness, and a life of ease and well being

Based on the time tested wisdom of Ayurveda and Yoga, Chaya will lead you through 8 elements and 18 marma points, and yoga nidra or yogic sleep, that play an important role in breaking the stress cycle to unlocking your hidden stress patterns, change your energy, and create the space for you to balance your body, mind and spirit to connect to your true nature. Learn and practice these natural time tested tools for stress reduction that work on the level of transformation and awaken to life!!

All are welcome. CEUs are available for Yoga Instructors.

Kirtan: Yoga of Chant, Songs of the Heart
A devotional and musical experience

Kirtan is a tradition of call and response of ancient spiritual songs with primordial sounds and devotional chants. The science of sound, called Nad, and knowledge of divine Mantra, which means divine energy,  or thought, has the power to significantly raise your vibration above the conscious mind,  purifying ,  and nourishing our senses, gaining the powers to see more clearly into our true nature. This can offer us the ability to attain the 4 pursuits of life; clear purpose, wealth, happiness and liberation, bringing harmony and balance, and health to the body, and mind, allowing us to align with the soul and discover our faith and ultimate freedom.

Swami Kripalu said that when Mantra Chanting and Devotion are used together, they unlock the power inherent in the Mantra, and at the root of every miracle in the world, Mantra is the one tremendous power house of energy, and the best of all tools of the yoga of devotion. When practicing kirtan with others and with live music, our hearts open and we tend to feel more energized, clear, and compassionate, drawing more grace and ease into our daily lives.

The kirtan will be lead by Chaya~Sharon Heller on harmonium and vocals, accompanied by Richard Brookens on tabla, udu, flutes and more and Arvid Smith on sitar, delruba and guitar.

FEE: $15 — Includes refreshments (Prasad)

Chaya shares the healing and spiritual power of Yoga,  Ayurveda  and Chanting as the trinity of life through, body, mind and speech, handed down by the sages who trail blazed the way to living well.

Author of Yoga of Action, featured in Kripalu Yoga, and Yoga International magazine, and teaching at prominent venues and teacher trainings throughout the country, including Kripalu Center, Omega Institute, and Integrative Yoga Therapy, Chaya transmits the essence and message of unity, peace, and love through Kirtan.

Rich Brookens and Arvid Smith have both played for many years in a variety of venues and styles of music, bringing a high level of musicianship to each kirtan.

"It was a wonderful Kirtan. There was a beautiful invocation, call and responses were clear, there was a moving sanskrit prayer, and a unifying closing. The drumming was hypnotically attuned to the background of the harmonium and singing. The vibrations were nothing less than transformational." ~Russ Bova

For thirty years in Jacksonville, Arvid Smith has impacted the musical environment of North Florida in varied musical congregations, from experimental works performed in planetariums to main stage sets at Bluegrass festivals. He is also a founding member of the nationally touring folk/roots group Tammerlin with a few esoteric turns as well. Though a guitarist touching on the areas that made that instrument welcome in all genres of music it was the siren song of the sitar that proved life changing. Combining the possibilities of yoga practice with ambient sitar based on the traditional Hindi raags has become anew dream goal and part of the natural flow of an ever unfolding musical journey.

Tabla player Joseph Buglar has been studying North Indian Classical Music on the Tabla and Santoor as a disciple of Santoor exponent Nandkishor Muley of Baroda, India for over 10 years and also performs as a World Percussionist; playing Djembe, Doumbek and Congas.
